Warm-Up Set Generator

Generate a progressive warm-up ramp to your working weight - each set auto-rounded to plates you can actually load. Standard and Rippetoe protocols.

How it works

The generator builds a ramp from the empty bar up to your working weight using a percentage ladder, then rounds every set to a weight your plates can actually make:

Standard: bar → 40% → 60% → 75% → 85% → working weight

Reps drop as the weight climbs so you arrive fresh. The working set is highlighted at the bottom. Because each step is snapped to a loadable weight, you never have to chase a fractional plate mid-session.

Worked example

Working weight 150kg on a 20kg bar: bar×8, 60kg×5, 90kg×5, 112.5kg×3, 127.5kg×2, then 150kg×5 - five quick ramp sets, all loadable from a standard kg set.

Frequently asked questions

How many warm-up sets should I do?

3–5 is plenty for most lifters: empty bar, then a few jumps toward your working weight with decreasing reps. Heavier weights need more ramp sets; light accessory work needs fewer.

Why warm up before lifting?

It raises muscle temperature, grooves the pattern at lighter loads and primes your nervous system - improving working-set performance and reducing injury risk.

Should warm-up sets cause fatigue?

No. Keep reps low as weight climbs (5, 3, 2, 1) so you prepare the lift without burning energy you need for the working sets.

Heavy singles vs hypertrophy?

For a heavy single, take more small jumps near the top to rehearse the load. For 8–12 rep hypertrophy work, fewer warm-ups are needed because the working weight is lighter relative to your max.

Why round to available plates?

A percentage like 62.5% rarely lands on a loadable number. Each set is snapped to the nearest weight your plate set can build, so you're not fumbling with fractional plates between warm-ups.
